Phoenix Zoo

Voted as one of the top 5 kid friendly zoos in the country.  The Phoenix zoo offers a great assortment of animals.  With 2 1/2 miles of trails throughout the zoo it provides enough sites to see if you are going to spend the entire day.  You can also see the entire zoo within a couple of hours on foot or by bike.

Pima Air & Space Museum

Just south of Tuscon AZ you can find the Pima Air & Space Museum.  For airplane buffs this is a great place to check out.  They have over 275 air and spacecraft.  Four hangers house aircraft and displays with lots of history.  This is a great place to take the kids to teach them about the history of airplanes.

Redlake Junction Railroad

ATSF 189 on The Redlake Junction RRIf you are on the way to the Grand Canyon The Redlake Junction Railroad is a fun little family side trip that is located just 0.3 miles East of Highway 64. The railroad is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday with steam train rides offered on Saturday and Sunday. We have two steam engines that are 1.5 inch scale.

Hoover Dam

Take the kids on a tour of the Hoover Dam.

It took less than five years to build this amazing structure.  The dam was completed on May 29, 1935.  Weighing over 6,600,000 tons it holds back the mighty Colorodo river and provides 4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Arizona, Nevada, and California.  That's enough to serve 1.3 million people a year!  For more info on the dam check them out at www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam

 

Grand Canyon Deer Farm


Our trip to the Grand Canyon Deer Farm in Winslow AZ was alot of fun for us and the kids.  The deer farm is about 25 miles west of Flagstaff.  We went in January so there was lots of snow on the ground.  The deer are unbelievably tame and gentle.  Our son had a great time feeding them.  He was concerned the entire time that the babies were not getting enough food.  I would recommend buying the big bucket of food to start out with.  I made the mistake of getting a smaller cup and had to go back in for more.
